What is "Brake Horsepower" and "Continuous Horsepower"?
 
Brake horsepower or BPH is the maximum value rating of a motor WITHOUT pump.
Continuous Horsepower is normal duty of a motor with pump attached and under a load such as water.
 
Jacuzzi Hot Tubs often have both ratings on their motors. The key is the Continuous horsepower rating. That is a true rating since who uses a motor without a pump?

All Jacuzzi Hot Tubs use the "continuous" rating rather that BPH to give a faulty value to the customers.
